Ensure that an excavation permit is obtained if required.
Check and verify that the latest drawing is approved for
excavation.
Ensure that the ground levels are agreed upon at suitable
intervals with the consultant/client.
Check that a temporary dewatering system is provided to
lower and maintain the groundwater table to a depth of at least 1 meter below
the excavation depth at all times, and is maintained (if required).
Check for any existing underground utility services through
electrical scanning and conduct a full service survey before the start of trial
excavation (if required).
Ensure that any interruption to existing utilities is
permitted by the consultant in writing at least 48 hours before the start of
the work.
Ensure that the dimensions and depths of the excavation are
completed as required to allow for safe and proper construction work.
Ensure that an engineer’s inspection is conducted when the
specified levels/limits of excavation are reached.
Ensure that the excavation reaches firm soil and that the
bottom of the excavation is not disturbed.
Check that approval from the engineer is obtained for the
disposal of excavated material or for its reuse in backfilling.
Ensure that the excavation is completed as per
specifications and drawings, and that the area is left clean and tidy.
