1.0       SCOPE

 

The intension of this method statement is to identify, establish and describe the different works to be undertaken in conformity with the specified requirements for Earthworks related activities consistent with the approved drawing s and relevant specification.

 

1.0.1.      Excavation of soil from existing ground level Elev. 0 to  a minimum 1.3 to 1.6 m depth maximum, as per BOQ, and approved shop Drawing.

1.0.2.      Mass Excavation for rocks and hard soil as per Engineers/ Consultant instruction and approval.

 

 

2.0              RESPONSIBILITY

 

2.1              Project Manager is overall responsible for all aspects of the works / project.

 

2.2              The Project Site Engineers are responsible for proper execution, arrangement, co-ordination & supervision for the quality, safety & delivery of work.

 

 

2.3              The QA/QC Manager & Engineers shall ensure that execution team is following this method statement & implementing the site inspection procedures. The QA/QC Engineers shall monitor, check, control & document the quality of concrete delivered to site, & the quality of work during the entire duration of casting.

 

2.4              MEP Coordinator / Engineers is the responsible for coordination of Mechanical and Electrical works with relevant on underground works.

 

2.5              Safety Engineer or Safety Officer will ensure the implementation of safety at work site.

 

 

3.0              MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT

 

3.1              Excavators / Backhoes / Breakers.

3.2              Wheel Loaders / Shovels

3.3              Bulldozer

3.4              Dump Trucks / Trailer

3.5              Bobcat / JVC

 

4.0              EXECUTION

 

4.1              Setting-out surveys and as well as leveling surveys shall be approved and inspected by Client representative and approved by 3rd party surveyor which is approved and qualified by local government. 

4.2              Benchmark / Control points shall also established by 3rd party surveyor on site at suitable location. Benchmarks shall be marked with its co-ordinates and elevation and the same transposed to a sketch / drawing for records.

4.3              All setting out and leveling works shall be carried out in accordance with approved drawings.

4.4              All ground investigation shall carry out and approved by Client prior to proceed of excavation.

 

 

5.0              PREPARATION

 

The site area to be excavated will be thoroughly inspected and any necessary preparation in conformity with the project specification.

 

5.1              Protect structures, utilities, sidewalks, pavements, lateral movement, undermining, washout, and others hazards created by earthworks operation.

5.2              Protect sub grades and foundation soils against freezing temperatures or frost. Provide protective insulating materials as necessary.

5.3              Provide erosion-control measures if necessary to prevent erosion or displacement of soils and discharge of soil bearing water run-off or airborne dust to adjacent properties and walkways.

 

6.0              EXCAVATION

 

6.1              Preliminary setting out be done by surveyor using chalk powder or paint on the ground using benchmarks/ control points. Due allowance for working space and stability of the sides shall be consider during this marking by extending the excavation face from the structure line.

6.2              An official inspection shall be issued to Engineers for markings on the ground prior to commencing the excavation works.

6.3              Excavation shall be carried out using equipment listed earlier in this section.

6.4              All equipment shall be fitted with reverse alarms and wheel loaders with flashing beacon.

6.5              The Foreman or Supervisor for excavation shall maintain a watch on the excavation and assist the surveyors, engineer and other trade contractor who will be giving the levels to the operators as indicated on the approved shop drawings.

6.6              During Excavation vertical cuts may be made if the surface countered is rocky. However, all loose pockets shall be removed to avoid any collapse.

6.7              Unsuitable/ deleterious materials shall be carted away from site using tipper trucks to location designated by the municipality.

6.8              All excavation shall be done to elevation indicated within a tolerance of plus / minus 25 mm.

 

 

7.0              MATERIALS HANDLING AND STORAGE

 

7.1              Temporary storage at site in an orderly manner as not to hinder any other on-going works, including dust control in stockpiles as necessary.

 

8.0              FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

 

8.1              Work shall comply with all rules, regulation, law and ordinance of all authorities having jurisdiction.

8.2              All Inspection will be carried out in phases to cover a part of the total work.

8.3              Ensure Quality control of works will be monitored by supervisor in ensuring compliance with this document.

 

9.0              SAFETY PRECAUTION

 

9.1              Prime importance shall be given to safety of personnel and protection utility Service. It ensures that the personnel involved are thoroughly aware of the company Safety regulation.

9.2              Any Machineries and Equipment must operate only by well trained, experienced and license personnel.

9.3              Protective clothing and equipment will be necessary and will ensure that any special protective clothing or equipment required and any signs relating to the wearing of helmets, eye protection, ear defenders, visibility vest etc., are ordered and available for use on site and that subcontractors are made aware of any site requirements, especially for the wearing of safety helmets.

9.4              Instruct staff in the correct handling and lifting of materials as required for the handling of materials which could cause injuries to the hands.

9.5              Risk assessment letter should issue by Safety In-charge before start of activity and immediately post at the working area during activity.
